Florida End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments
The Florida EOC Assessments are part of
Florida's Next Generation Strategic Plan for the purpose of increasing student achievement and improving college and career readiness. EOCs will be computer-based, criterion-referenced assessments that measure the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for specific high-school level courses, as outlined in the course description. The first assessment to begin the transition to end-of-course testing in Florida is the Algebra 1 EOC, which will be administered for the first time in May 2011.

To fully transition to the new Florida End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments, Florida must engage in a process of identifying new Achievement Levels. This process is known as standard setting. Standard setting includes many steps, including the development of Achievement Level Descriptions (ALDs). Given the extremely critical role that ALDs will serve in standard setting, the Department is requesting feedback on the drafts from Florida educators and other stakeholders. At this time, drafts are posted for the Algebra 1 EOC Assessment. The 30-day public review period will end on April 25, 2011.

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® (FCAT)
The FCAT began in 1998 as part of Florida's overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher standards. The FCAT, administered to students in Grades 3-11, consists of criterion-referenced tests (CRT) in mathematics, reading, science, and writing, which measure student progress toward meeting the Sunshine State Standards (SSS) benchmarks. During the 2010-11 school year, Florida will begin the transition from the FCAT to the FCAT 2.0 and Florida End-of-Course Assessments.
